Within this setting, I played all sorts of sports. My mom fueled my passion for play and female empowerment. After all, she was never able to play sports- they were just for boys back then.
Title IX came and changed the landscape for myself and countless others. It changed the dialog for our girls and changed the economy for youth sports.
Suddenly, it became more meaningful to be good at play.
It was an energizing moment in our history.
I was the benefactor of immense efforts.
I earned a soccer scholarship, played in a National Championship, made a National Team, and went on to play professionally.
All this because I loved what I did and did what I loved.
